Hospitals In Gilgit
Gilgit Eye Hospital
Gilgit Eye Hospital is dedicated to providing quality ophthalmological care that is affordable, GEH has focused on treating the causes of avoidable blindness. The main causes of such blindness in the Northern Areas are cataract, glaucoma and trachoma. With the support of many individuals and several charitable organizations, GEH has been able to provide some of the latest technology for people in a very remote area of the world.
For example, our standard treatment for cataract is an ECCE procedure with insertion of an Intra Ocular lens. Most cataract patients who present for surgery here have white cataracts and a vision of less than 6/60 (20/200). After surgery most see better than 6/18 (20/60). We do this for a cost of 1500Rs (25 USD) which is affordable for most our patients. As we are especially concerned about our poorer patients, we have never turned anyone away for the inability to pay and do roughly 10% of our surgeries on a charity basis.
The Gilgit Blind School aims to empower local blind people with the skills they need to become active participants in their communities. Currently, two areas are emphasized.
On the more scholastic side, GBS is teaching their students Urdu Braille and simple math. On the more practical side, we are also teaching mobility and vocational skills.
To date, our students have made cement tiles for sidewalks, hotel courtyards etc.,. candles, and are practicing weaving caned chairs. We also provide recreational opportunities for our blind students that include cricket, swimming and local outings. On the grounds, we have a small hotel for those students who do not have a place to stay near Gilgit. We currently have four students.

I am convinced that this new pattern will magnify the impact of the resources of AKU throughout important regions of the country. "
Family Health Hospital Gilgit is a development project of the Family Planning Association of Pakistan, (RAHNUMA) established under the Northern Health Programme (NHP) with financial and technical assistance of KfW, Germany. Origin of the FHH, Gilgit dates back to 1986, when FPAP launched a Community Based Family Planning services program in the Northern Areas with establishment of a small clinic known as “Model Clinic” in July 1986 initially linked with 13 Community Workers known as “Health Guards”. As a result of the commitment of FPAP towards the Program of action (PoA) of the ICPD 1994 the Family Health Hospital Gilgit shifted its services from family planning to comprehensive Reproductive Health Services.
